With a history of 2300 years, the Port of Ningbo has been a gateway to the world in China. For 30 years, the Port has been serving as the powerhouse of the city, leading the ancient city to the oceans and to the world. And the port itself has joined the first ranks in the world. In 2009 the port handled a throughput of 384 million tons, having kept the second place in China and fourth place in the world. The container throughput once again broke through 10 million TEUs, standing at 10 million 423 thousand TEU, which was among the top eight in the world.

The Port of Ningbo boasts particular deep-water advantages. To the north it has the Zhoushan Islands as the natural shelter, with the approach channels all below 22.1 meters deep, capable of receiving 300,000 DWT vessels. Each year it receives the biggest number of 100,000 DWT vessels among all mainland ports.

THE ORGANIZATION

Main responsibilities:

(Ⅰ) implement the Party Central Committee, the State Council and the provincial Party committee and provincial government the relevant ports, blow smuggling and coastal management laws, regulations and policies; entrusted with drafting the city's port management, combat smuggling, coastal management of local regulations, the draft regulations, after consideration by the organization and Implementation; to formulate municipal port management, shipping service center, shipping exchange (Center), fight against smuggling, coastal development planning and management work plan, approved by the organization and implementation.

(Ⅱ) responsible for Sea airport and land ports open, expand open and temporary open review, approval of work; in collaboration with relevant departments to do the port inspection units to prepare and infrastructure construction project examination

(Ⅲ) responsible for the comprehensive coordination of the work of the city's port, supervision and inspection, guiding the port construction and management; responsible for the management of international shipping service center, Beilun customs clearance center, airport clearance center service and coordination unit stationed optimizing clearance work;
